Officials in Beech Mountain, NC will cut the ribbon on a new paved road on Thursday.

The Beech Mountain Town Council approved a paving project for Buckeye Creek Road in the spring of 2020. That project costed $685,000, and was completed in June of 2020.

A ribbon-cutting will take place at 3:00 p.m. today, August 27 at the Westerly Hills trailhead on Buckeye Creed Road.

“This is a huge step for Beech Mountain and has opened up many areas to easier access,” stated Mayor Barry Kauffman. “Our residents and visitors now have a quicker way to travel to communities on the other side of the mountain, including Watauga Lake, Elizabethon and Mountain City, Tennessee, as well as Boone, NC.”

According to Kate Gavenus, Director of the Beech Mountain Tourist Development Authority, the newly paved two-mile stretch of road will link the town to Highway 321, creating a new corridor for travelers and businesses.

A regional driving trail is in development and is expected to be ready in May 2021.
