CARTER CO., Tenn. (WJHL) – The driver of an 18-wheeler which overturned on U.S. 321 near Milligan Highway will face charges.

According to a report by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Terry Swafford, 50, of McKenzie, Tenn., was driving his 2019 Peterbuilt semi-truck east on U.S. 321 when he lost control going around a curve.

The report states the vehicle began to tilt and the load (aluminum coils) shifted, causing it to turnover.

THP also reported that Swafford was taken to Johnson City Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Officers charged Swafford with failure to exercise due care.

According to the TDOT Smartway map, one eastbound lane and both westbound lanes of U.S. 321 are open to traffic in the area.

It is expected to clear during the afternoon.
